* Professional cyclist between 1998 and 2009. Teams: Vitalicio Seguros, Mapei, Quick-Step and Rabobank.
* 10 professional victories, including stages won in Paris-Nice, Tour of Catalonia and Dauphiné Liberé. 
* Fan of the classics and especially the Paris-Roubaix, where he finished in 11th place in 2006 in one of the highest positions ever achieved by a Spaniard for this race. From the ‘Hell of the North’ he is known to have said “if only I had been able to ride one professional race it would have been, of course, the Paris-Roubaix.”
